TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATE/PARAPROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school education; College coursework/degree preferred.
2. Solid understanding of student development.
3. Experience working with children at the grade levels assigned preferred.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Building Administrator
JOB GOAL: To assist the classroom teacher, whenever possible, to help an individual or a small group of students take full advantage of the instructional program and be academically successful.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the building administrator and faculty in establishing a positive public image for the school.
- Displays a positive attitude and is courteous, friendly, and cooperative with staff, students, and stakeholders.
- Respects confidentiality in school matters, especially those involving students and staff.
- Completes all training deemed appropriate and necessary, for the position, by the building administrator or superintendent.
- Collaborates with teachers and initiates positive communication with other staff members.
- Acts in a positive, patient, and understanding manner to students and adults.
- Assists the classroom teacher by reinforcing content/curriculum, providing additional learning support, helping to adapt appropriate materials, and generally addressing the academic needs of an individual or small group of students in the classroom or an alternate environment.
- Accepts different daily/weekly responsibilities in a positive manner to help with staff absences.
- Assists students with personal primary care, as deemed necessary.
- Addresses the social and emotional needs of students.
- Maintains an appropriate personal appearance and work area and is punctual to work position.
- Completes all required district/state/federal documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Provides feedback to the classroom teacher on student progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board, in consultation with the superintendent.
