West Fork CSD is seeking a passionate, student-centered Secondary Special Education Teacher to serve students in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will hold (or be willing to obtain) a ID Endoresement and demonstrate expertise in supporting students with moderate to significant disabilities in both resource and inclusive settings.
This position requires strong collaboration skills, knowledge of individualized instruction, and a commitment to ensuring students achieve academic, behavioral, and transitional success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional skill areas.
- Deliver specially designed instruction aligned to grade-level standards.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and accommodations.
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain accurate documentation.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student growth and needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings, problem-solving teams, and professional learning communities.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive behavioral strategies.
- Coordinate transition planning for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.
- Maintain compliance with all IDEA and state reporting requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Iowa Teaching License with Strat II (Instructional Strategist II) ID endorsement
OR willingness to obtain Strat ID endorsement.
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
- Knowledge of co-teaching models and inclusive instructional practices.
- Experience with progress monitoring tools and data-based decision-making.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Iowa Teaching License with appropriate Special Education endorsement.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction.
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
