Special Education Associate - Job Description
South Hamilton Community School District
Purpose: The purpose of the Special Education Associate position is to provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with special needs, allowing them to attend a regular classroom setting on a regular basis.
Reports to: Building Principal
Education Preferred: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
You Need:
- To be capable of performing the tasks outlined below
- To demonstrate an aptitude for successful completion of your duties
- Any such qualifications that the School Board may find appropriate for this position
Responsibilities:
- Desire to work with physically impaired and special needs students on a daily basis.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly when an emergency arises.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn IEP procedures, physical therapy, assistive technology and devices, and occupational therapy programs.
- Ability to communicate with extreme patience to students with special needs or behavioral problems.
- Must be able to interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, parents, and other staff members
Terms of Employment:
- Yearly contract, as negotiated with the School Board
