Position Summary
Pocahontas Area Schools are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Spanish teacher (anticipated) to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop proficiency in Spanish while fostering an appreciation for Hispanic cultures and global citizenship.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based Spanish instruction
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, styles, and proficiency levels
- Integrate authentic materials, cultural content, and technology to enhance language acquisition
- Develop assessments that measure student progress in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
- Create an immersive language-learning environment that encourages active communication in Spanish
Classroom Management & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom culture that promotes risk-taking and language practice
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to maximize instructional time
- Provide timely feedback and support to help students achieve language proficiency goals
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress and opportunities for growth
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with colleagues to meet student needs
- Participate in professional development opportunities
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance data
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives, committees, and extracurricular activities as appropriate
- Supervise students during assigned duties (lunch, hallway, etc.)
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, or related field
- Valid Iowa state teaching license/certification in Spanish (or eligibility to obtain)
- Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish language
- Knowledge of current language teaching methodologies and best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep understanding of Spanish language structure, grammar, and cultural contexts
- Ability to create engaging, student-centered lessons that promote communicative competence
- Skilled in differentiating instruction for diverse learners, including heritage speakers and novice learners

Working Conditions
