What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nighttime High School Custodian (2026-2027) position at TeachIowa?
Iowa Valley CSD has an opening for a Night/Evening Custodian in our High School Building. The ideal candidate would be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the schools facilities, ensuring an environment conducive to learning. This is a part-time position offering approx. 25 hours a week.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Maintenance - Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
Restroom Sanitation - Clean and disinfect all bathroom fixtures, ensuring a hygenic environment for students and staff.
Trash and Recycling Management - Collect and dispose of waste and recyclables, ensuring proper separation and disposal.
Floor Care - Maintain various floor types through appropriate techniques, including stipping, waxing, and buffing.
Event Setup - Assist in the setup and teardown of school events, including arranging furniture and equipment as needed.
Minor Repairs - Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fixing leaky faucets.
Safety Checks - Regularly inspect facilities for potential safety hazards and report any issues to maintenance or school administration.
Communication - Maintain open communication with supervisors and staff regarding school activities and maintenance needs.
Working Environment
Iowa Valley CSD is located in Marengo, Iowa, which is 10 miles North of I-80 and approx. 30 minutes West of the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor. School Hours are 3:00 - 7:00 M-F and summer hours could vary based on need. The position may be physically demanding, requiring lifting, bending, and/or standing for extended periods.
