Librarian/Media Specialist

North Butler CSD has an immediate opening for School Librarian/Media Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

Library Management

• Organize, maintain, and update the library collection (print and digital materials).

• Catalog and classify library materials using library management systems.

• Supervise library use and ensure a welcoming, safe, and productive environment.

Instructional Support

• Teach information literacy and research skills

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and deliver lessons aligned with curriculum standards.

• Promote reading and literature appreciation through book talks, reading programs, and library events.

Technology Integration

• Introduce and support the use of educational technologies and digital tools in research and learning.

• Guide students and staff in evaluating and using digital resources effectively and responsibly.

Collection Development

• Select and acquire materials that support the curriculum and reflect student interests

• Conduct regular weeding of outdated or damaged materials.

Student Support

• Help students choose books appropriate to their reading level and interests.

• Encourage independent reading and inquiry-based learning.

Professional Collaboration

• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

• Serve as a resource to faculty for instructional materials and library services.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Passion for literature and working with young students

• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

• Knowledge of children’s literature, instructional strategies, and information technology.
