K-5 Classroom Assistant

PURPOSE:

JOB SUMMARY:

Support the teacher in creating a safe, organized and engaging learning environment for students. Assist with preparing materials for the classroom, reinforcing learning concepts, provide additional supervision for students and offer individualized support where needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• High School Diploma or GED
• Support and foster the Christian uniqueness of the learning community
• Use Gospel values as the basis for decision making
• Possess an ability to be flexible, adaptive, and cooperative 
• Attitude of helpfulness and ability to work well with others
• Demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities
• Display patience and understanding
• Possess the organizational and technological skills necessary to complete assigned duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Ability to support and reinforce learning with students either one on one or in small group settings
• Ability to assist in classroom to support learning, assist with understanding and provide additional assistance to students when needed
• Supervise students during non-classroom time such as lunch, recess and in the hallways to ensure safety. 
• Support and promote the philosophy of Catholic education and contribute to building a spirit of unity within the school and the Cedar Valley Catholic Schools System
• Comply with rules and objectives of the school, Cedar Valley Catholic Schools and the Archdiocese of Dubuque
• Promote positive public relations with staff, parents and the public in all daily contacts, including phone conversations and school visits
• Monitor, observe and support student behaviors in accordance with approved policies and procedures
• Ability to develop rapport and interact effectively with students. 
• Ability to interact and collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner. 
• Ability to support and reinforce learning with students either one on one or in small group settings. 

These duties are not all-inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
