The Junior High Track Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the junior high track program. The coach will provide instruction in track and field skills, promote sportsmanship, foster student-athlete development, and ensure a safe and positive athletic experience for all participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management
- Organize and conduct daily practices and training sessions.
- Develop practice plans that emphasize skill development, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Coordinate meet participation, event assignments, and athlete preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and athlete progress.
Student-Athlete Development
- Teach fundamental track and field skills and techniques.
- Promote good sportsmanship, character, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators.
- Encourage academic achievement and personal responsibility.
- Provide appropriate supervision and guidance to student-athletes.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure a safe practice and competition environment.
- Enforce school, conference, and state athletic association rules and regulations.
- Monitor equipment and facilities for safety concerns and report issues as needed.
- Follow district policies regarding student supervision, transportation, and emergencies.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and fellow coaches.
- Attend coaches' meetings and other required school activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and coaching staff.
- Provide timely information regarding schedules, expectations, and team activities.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of track and field rules, techniques, and coaching strategies.
- Ability to work effectively with junior high-aged students.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Successful completion of required coaching authorization/licensure.
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and concussion training as required by state regulations.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
