The Head Girls Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive and inclusive girls wrestling program. This role focuses on student-athlete skill development, character building, academic accountability, and fostering a positive team culture. The coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including training, competition, recruitment, compliance, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Leadership & Development
Develop and implement a comprehensive year-round wrestling program.
Establish team goals, values, and performance standards.
Promote sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and respect.
Build and sustain a strong team culture focused on growth and accountability.
2. Coaching & Skill Development
Plan and conduct effective practices, conditioning sessions, and match preparation.
Teach fundamental and advanced wrestling techniques, strategy, and rules.
Evaluate individual athlete performance and create development plans.
Ensure safe training practices and injury prevention protocols.
3. Competition Management
Work with the AD to coordinate meet schedules and tournament participation.
Prepare athletes physically and mentally for competition.
Manage match strategy and in-game adjustments.
4. Athlete Support & Mentorship
Monitor academic progress and eligibility requirements.
Serve as a mentor and positive role model for student-athletes.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding expectations and progress.
Promote leadership development and team unity.
5. Compliance & Administration
Ensure adherence to school, district, and athletic association policies.
Maintain accurate records (rosters, eligibility, equipment inventory, statistics).
Oversee equipment purchasing, distribution, and maintenance.
6. Recruitment & Program Growth
Promote participation in girls wrestling and increase program visibility.
Collaborate with youth and middle school programs to build a pipeline.
7. Staff Supervision
Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches and volunteers.
Provide leadership and professional development for coaching staff.
Qualifications
Previous wrestling coaching experience (head coaching experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and training methodologies.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
Commitment to promoting girls athletics and gender equity in sports.
