Provide leadership, organization, and instruction for the high school boys basketball program while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, character development, and student-athlete success both on and off the court.
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa coaching authorization/certification
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and skill development
- Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and community members
- Successful completion of required background checks and trainings
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise all aspects of the varsity boys basketball program
- Develop practice plans focused on skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship
- Coach and instruct athletes during practices and competitions
- Promote positive conduct, discipline, and high expectations for student-athletes
- Work collaboratively with assistant coaches and lower-level programs to ensure program consistency
- Maintain communication with players, parents, administration, and staff
- Ensure the safety and welfare of student-athletes at all times
- Oversee equipment, uniforms, and inventory related to the basketball program
- Coordinate transportation, scheduling needs, and other program logistics with the Activities Director/Transportation Director
- Encourage academic achievement and positive citizenship among athletes
- Represent the school and community in a professional manner at all times
- Follow all school district, conference, and Iowa High School Athletic Association rules and regulations
- Assist with offseason program development, youth camps, and player development opportunities as appropriate
