What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELEMENTARY PARAEDUCATOR position at TeachIowa?
Job Goal: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Summary: Performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in classroom to assist teaching staff in teaching basic academic and living skills one-on-one and/or to small groups of students who are from moderately to severely challenged (e.g. learning disabilities, behavior disorders, physically challenged, etc.) by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Attends IEP with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts and gives input regarding modifications required to lesson plans, etc.
Plans, prepares and develops various teaching aids appropriate for each student’s level of achievement and submits an outline to the teacher for review.
Assists in the instruction of students in their lessons, individually and in small groups by following a daily schedule, utilizing various teaching techniques, such as signing, phonetics, multisensory learning and repetition to reinforce learning. Adapts lesson plans, spontaneously, as necessary.
Instructs and coaches students in fundamental daily living skills such as, eating, toleting, hygiene, attention span, work skills, safety and appropriate public behavior/etiquette, computer usage and leisure skills.
May confer daily with parents regarding students’ progress, transportation, illnesses, special needs, etc.
Supervises recess and other student activities.
May be involved in the instruction and coaching of student(s) his/her Special Olympic routines. May accompany student(s) to Special Olympic events - chaperone overnight events.
Observes, evaluates and prepares reports on progress of students.
