Job Title: Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach
Location: Moravia High School, Moravia Community School District
Reports To: Head Varsity Baseball Coach & Activities Director
Position Summary
The Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a successful high school baseball program that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and academic achievement. This position requires strong leadership, communication skills, and a commitment to the growth of student-athletes both on and off the field.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting effective practices.
Teach proper baseball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
Provide individualized instruction and feedback to athletes.
Support the development of players’ physical conditioning, skill level, and understanding of the game.
Motivate student-athletes to achieve their highest potential both athletically and academically.
Game Preparation & Management
Help coordinate game-day operations including warm-ups, lineups, equipment, and strategy execution.
Assist with in-game decision-making, substitutions, and player communication as directed by the Head Coach.
Scout opponents and contribute to the development of game strategies.
Program Support
Model positive sportsmanship and ensure team members uphold high standards of conduct on and off the field.
Assist in monitoring academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.
Support strength and conditioning programs during the offseason.
Maintain inventory, care, and organization of team equipment and uniforms.
Promote the baseball program within the school and community.
Supervision & Safety
Supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and other team functions.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants through proper instruction and adherence to safety protocols.
Uphold school district, conference, and IHSAA rules and regulations.
Collaboration & Professionalism
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, staff, and administration.
Support the Head Coach in fostering a positive team culture and climate.
Attend required coaches’ meetings, clinics, and professional development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Activities Director.
Qualifications
Prior coaching or playing experience in baseball preferred.
Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, students, and families.
Commitment to student-athlete academic success, personal growth, and character development.
Must meet Iowa coaching authorization or certification requirements.
