Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality instruction in secondary agriculture courses aligned to Iowa Core standards and district curriculum.
- Develop engaging, hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for careers in agriculture, skilled trades, agribusiness, and related fields.
- Promote student growth through leadership opportunities, career exploration, and personal development activities connected to agricultural education and FFA participation.
- Serve as advisor to the district’s FFA chapter by organizing meetings, competitions, leadership conferences, community service activities, and participation in district, state, and national FFA events.
- Guide and support students in developing and maintaining meaningful Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs).
- Build positive relationships with local agricultural businesses, community organizations, alumni, and industry partners to support student learning opportunities and program growth.
- Maintain safe and organized classrooms, labs, shops, and agricultural facilities.
- Assist with inventory, budgeting, equipment management, and curriculum development.
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, families, and community stakeholders to support student achievement and promote the agricultural education program.
- Participate in professional development, district meetings, and other assigned school activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education or related field.
- Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate Agriculture Education endorsement (or ability to obtain).
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of agricultural education curriculum and program development.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
- Commitment to student engagement, leadership development, and career readiness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising FFA activities and Career Development Events (CDEs).
- Knowledge of Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs.
- Experience teaching in a secondary agricultural education setting.
- Familiarity with agricultural mechanics, animal science, plant science, ag business, or related areas.
- Experience working with community and industry partners in agricultural education.
