What are the responsibilities and job description for the 9th Grade Physical Science Teacher position at TeachIowa?
2026-2027 School Year - Due to a late resignation, we are looking for a dedicated 9th grade Science Teacher to educate students on the various aspects of physical science concepts. The Science Teacher’s responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons, preparing educational materials, and grading student assignments. Our ideal candidates have a strong understanding of science concepts and the ability to effectively prepare and communicate laboratory experiments to demonstrate these principles. Ultimately, the role of the Science Teacher is to foster an environment where students explore scientific ideas.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in the Sciences or related field (minimum)
- Iowa Teaching License (with appropriate endorsements)
- Mandatory Reporter: Child Abuse
Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the school’s curriculum and educational program
- Use creative teaching strategies to engage students and make science concepts accessible and exciting.
- Conduct experiments and hands-on activities to demonstrate scientific principles
- Assessing students’ academic performance, behavior, and social development
- Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where students can explore scientific ideas that caters to diverse learning styles and needs
- Preparing and grading exams, assignments, and papers to evaluate students’ progress
- Participating in school activities, faculty meetings, and parent-teacher conferences
- Continually updating teaching skills and knowledge through professional development activities and staying updated on the latest scientific discoveries to integrate this knowledge into teaching
- Using a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. to ensure all students are actively engaged in learning
- Managing student discipline and ensure the safe use of scient lab equipment
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
- Maintain an inventory of classroom instructional supplies, laboratory supplies, textbooks, and materials, and exercise control of the care of the same.
- Be informed of the educational philosophy, goals, and policies of the district.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Maintain district policies and regulations.
- Participate in initiating, implementing and coordinating any changes in curriculum.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the building administration and in compliance with the negotiated agreement.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.

- Salary and benefits as established by the SCEA negotiated agreement.
- Reports to Building Principal – Superintendent – Board of Education to coincide with the district’s chain of command.
