Job Summary

The Take-Off Technology and Data Specialist supports the Take-Off Technology and Data Manager in executing and maintaining take-off operations and technologies used across the preconstruction and estimating process. This role assists with the implementation of systems, standards, and tools that ensure accurate, efficient, and consistent quantity take-off across all mechanical disciplines-including plumbing, piping, sheetmetal, and process. The Take-Off Technology and Data Specialist helps maintain pricing database accuracy by supporting alignment with current procurement agreements, supplier pricing, and manufacturing requirements. Working under the direction of the Take-Off Technology and Data Manager, this individual contributes to training support, workflow execution, and continuous improvement efforts. The Take-Off Technology and Data Specialist reports directly to the Take-Off Technology and Data Manager and plays a supporting role in advancing model-based estimating and data-driven decision-making across the company's mechanical construction business.


Essential Duties

  • Assist the Take-Off Technology and Data Manager in maintaining and executing take-off processes, workflows, and tools to support accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across all estimating disciplines.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable take-off software resource, helping take-off team members troubleshoot issues and apply best practices under manager guidance.
  • Support updates to estimating databases, helping ensure that material, labor, and equipment pricing aligns with current procurement agreements and manufacturing standards.
  • Assist with maintaining database integrity across mechanical scopes (plumbing, piping, sheetmetal, and process) by coordinating with Procurement, Engineering, and VDC teams as directed.
  • Contribute to workload tracking tools used to forecast resource needs and balance take-off assignments across the department.
  • Assist in executing technical and process initiatives within the take-off function as assigned, supporting improvements and standards under the direction of the Manager.
  • Help build and maintain standardized take-off templates, assemblies, and workflows that align with company estimating standards and market best practices.
  • Support the training and onboarding of take-off team members to ensure consistency in methodology and deliverables.
  • Assist with documenting and executing process improvement initiatives related to model-based estimating and quantity extraction from VDC models.
  • Support the Take-off Technology and Data Manager in applying system standards, naming conventions, and file structures for all take-off operations.
  • Serve as a technical resource to take-off team members on software usage, database updates, and workflow questions.
  • Support collaboration with operations teams to help ensure work breakdown structure (WBS) and status utilization goals are achieved.
  • Assist in monitoring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency between take-off models and take-off reports.
  • Support Procurement coordination efforts to track vendor/manufacturer price updates and integrate changes into the take-off database in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with VDC and Engineering teams to help ensure take-off standards align with model-based estimating workflows.
  • Assist with analysis of take-off data for accuracy and variance trends to help identify training or process improvement needs.
  • Support preconstruction reporting, dashboards, and analytics related to take-off volume, accuracy, and efficiency metrics.
  • Assist in evaluating emerging technologies and process innovations related to take-off automation, model integration, and estimating accuracy.
  • Support standardization efforts across projects, offices, and markets to promote repeatable and scalable take-off processes.
  • Help develop and maintain documentation, user guides, and internal knowledge bases for all take-off tools and workflows.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent combination of field experience and technical expertise may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical construction experience, with exposure to estimating, take-off, or database management preferred. Field installation or fabrication experience in plumbing, piping, sheetmetal, or process is a plus
  • Proficiency with take-off software and working knowledge of Revit, Stratus, Trimble, or similar take-off and model-based estimating tools.
  • Working understanding of mechanical systems construction, including fabrication, labor factors, and material take-offs for plumbing, piping, sheetmetal, and process systems.
  • Familiarity with database structures, pricing systems, and cost data management.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, models, and specifications for quantity extraction.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and standardization.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to support process development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and support technology adoption efforts.
  • Proficient in Excel; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
