What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at TBS?
We are looking to hire a highly skilled and dependable technician who can handle a wide range of responsibilities, including diesel truck repair, forklift maintenance, and general plant maintenance. This role is ideal for someone who is experienced, self-motivated, and capable of diagnosing and repairing both mobile equipment and facility systems. Plant maintenance duties will be occasional and not part of the daily workload.
Primary Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines (medium and heavy-duty trucks, equipment, etc.)
- Perform maintenance and repairs on forklifts (propane, diesel, and electric)
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all equipment
- Maintain and repair plant machinery and production equipment (as needed, not daily)
- Handle general facility maintenance (lighting, electrical, air systems, etc.) (as needed)
- Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime
- Keep accurate records of repairs, parts, and maintenance schedules
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
Education, Experience and Core Requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- Two-year certificate from college or technical school preferred
- 1-3 years diesel mechanic experience required
- Must provide own tools.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for insurance purposes.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong experience in diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Experience working on forklifts (a big plus)
- Knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals
- Experience with plant/industrial maintenance preferred
- Ability to work independently with demonstrated time management skills
