TBEY Arts Center, Inc.’s mission is to strengthen youth and young adults through exposure to the arts and opportunities for creative expression. Youth and young adults ages 6-19 receive professional art instruction, enjoy performances and exhibits, and receive tutoring, mentoring, and coaching to achieve academically and pursue their interests in the arts.

The Director of Development executes fundraising strategies and is responsible for most aspects of fundraising programs. May assist in developing major gift opportunities and writing grant proposals. The Director of Development will provide a high level of and wide range of Development management and support. The Director of Development is a critical team member, whose focus is to ensure the smooth operations of the development department.
Essential job duties and responsibilities:
- Fundraising
- Design, implement, and manage all organizations fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other agency-related solicitations.
- Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
- Conducts prospect research to identify future funders.
- Develops and submits grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations.
- Maintains grant calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports.
- Writing, and processing reporting on grants by collaborating with other staff.
- Cultivate a culture of philanthropy by building and stewarding donor and funder relationships, while diversifying and growing the organization’s funding. Develop and maintain relationships with donors.
- Individual donors and supporters
- Schedules and prepares contact reports for the Executive Director for initiation/cultivation of relationships with funders.
- Help develop and manage all fundraising strategies, plan their execution, and educate staff and board members.
- Responsibilities also include the cultivation, solicitation, and education of current and prospective donors and sponsorship.
- Establishes and maintains personal relationships with program officers and foundation contacts.
- Seek and secure new funding sources; in-kind, foundation, corporations, etc.
- Develops a comprehensive planned-giving program as the need becomes appropriate.
- Manage and plan all fundraisers and special events.
- Lead the planning and execution of fundraising and donor cultivation events.
- Implement and revise the fund development plan with Executive Director
- Grant reporting
- Manage donor administrative activities: gift acknowledgment, data entry, etc.
- Support TBEY’s communication efforts to generate interest and support.
- Works with Program Staff to schedule and prepare for funder site visits.
- Develops annual fundraising events with Executive Director and event planning team. This includes inviting appropriate guests, incorporating board members, finding sponsors, speakers & engaging those we serve. Debrief events, evaluating their effectiveness in raising funds and sharing the mission of TBEY.
- Attends all staff meetings and events.
- Produce a Year-End campaign and meet all annual fundraising goals.
- Board of Directors
- Works with the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals.
- Develops fundraising training for interns and leadership volunteers.
- Assumes responsibility for all Development reports to the Executive Director to report to the Board of Directors and other agencies, and Board meetings as requested.
- Assists the Board with recommending and researching potential new major donor members.
- Fund Development Office Infrastructure
- Help create office systems to support all Development projects and operations.
- Manages and maintains the donor database.
- Supervises donor and gift record-keeping.
- Coordinates development research activities.
- Oversees the management of databases and all records, files, and gift processing.
- Manages acknowledgment of all gifts to donors
- Manage direct mail appeals. Issues at least 1-2 annual direct mail appeals, drafting the appeal, working with the vendor on logistics, and writing direct mail gift acknowledgments.
- Donor Relations
- Ensures all donors are kept up to date with TBEY activities and events. Works with Program Director & Coordinator to engage donors in upcoming activities to strengthen relationships and showcase program impact.
- Sends welcome packets to new individual partners.
- Develops the program to increase the engagement of monthly financial partners.
- Steward’s relationships by communicating regularly with partners, especially higher-level monthly and frequent donors.
- Develops communications to encourage more donors to give monthly.
- Organize a yearly donor appreciation event.
- Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising
- Works with the administrative team to develop public relations plan and an advertising plan that promotes TBEY’s fundraising goals.
- Work closely with ED and program staff in the designs and production of all major publications, including the agency newsletter, the Annual Report, and the agency website, to promote the agency’s fund-raising goals and activities.
- Recruit, coordinate, and supervise all volunteers
- Help develop and implement strategies to promote TBEY’s mission to the community at large.
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, or 5 years of related experience working in an office and in the community.
- Experience supporting or working closely with Executives and senior management.
- Strong phone, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a confident, concise, clear, and compelling style.
- Ability to interact effectively at multiple levels within the organization and with external audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving others
- Interested in long-term commitment and growth in the organization
- Flexibility to work some nights and occasional weekends
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and daily access to a reliable vehicle
- Able to relate to a diverse audience and personalities
- Experience or interest in the arts and youth is a plus
- High level of fundraising experience.
