Job Summary: The Teacher Mentorship Coordinator is a dual-capacity leader responsible for fostering instructional excellence within WCSD while directing the clinical pipeline for future educators. The roles of this shared position are a collaboration between Waterloo Schools and the University of Northern Iowa.
This individual bridges the gap between theory and practice by providing high-level coaching to current staff and overseeing the "grow-your-own" pipeline through the Clinical Practice Academy. They serve as the primary liaison for student teacher placements, mentor teacher development, and the integration of district-university strategic initiatives.

- Instructional Excellence: Improving student learning outcomes through evidence-based coaching and professional development.
- Leadership Capacity: Increasing the quality and consistency of mentor teachers and onsite supervisors.
Contract
- 190 Day Teacher Contract
- Extended Contract: 10 days

- 5 or more years of successful classroom teaching experience

Job Duties:
1. Instructional Coaching & Professional Learning
- Engage in regularly scheduled, student-centered coaching cycles to improve teacher practice and student engagement.
- Lead the delivery of professional development, including observing, modeling, and providing non-evaluative feedback.
- Coordinate the New Teacher Institute, in collaboration with Waterloo Schools Human Resources, and develop mentor modules and seminars to promote collegiality and retention.
- Analyze formative and summative data to guide instructional decisions and differentiate support for beginning teachers.
2. Clinical Practice & University Partnership
- In collaboration with UNI:
- Clinical Practice Academy: Develop, pilot and lead the Waterloo Clinical Practice Academy, integrating university coursework with district initiatives.
- Placement Coordination: Manage all UNI student teacher and internship placements within Waterloo schools in collaboration with building principals.
- Onsite Supervision: Oversee and calibrate onsite supervisors to ensure consistency in evaluation and feedback.
- Mentor Development: Design and facilitate structured learning pathways for district staff serving as mentor teachers.
- UNI Student Teaching: Teach and facilitate the weekly seminar for UNI Student Teachers.
- Professional Development School (PDS): participate in the redesign of the PDS model to facilitate pipelines and readiness for the profession.
3. Systems & Collaboration
- Maintain a trusting, confidential relationship with staff to foster professional autonomy.
- Ensure coherence between university clinical expectations and district instructional priorities (e.g., Iowa Core, District Strategic Plan).
- Participate in professional learning teams and keep current on research-based best practices.
