Position Title: Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher
Location:Calhoun County School System
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering standards-based instruction that promotes students’ physical fitness, health, and overall well-being. Instruction should align with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Physical Education and support the development of lifelong healthy habits, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and implement engaging physical education lessons aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence.
- Promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Provide instruction in a variety of activities such as team sports, individual sports, fitness training, and recreational activities.
- Establish and maintain a safe and orderly environment for all physical activities.
- Assess student performance and progress using appropriate evaluation methods.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff to support student success.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
- Model and reinforce appropriate behavior, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure proper use, care, and inventory of equipment and facilities.
- Follow all district policies, safety procedures, and state regulations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school events as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Health and Physical Education (P-12).
- Knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence for Physical Education.
- Ability to effectively manage groups of students in active environments.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in gymnasiums, outdoor fields, and other physical activity settings.
- Requires standing, walking, running, and demonstrating physical activities for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and move equipment as needed.
SALARY
Salary will be based on the receipt of the highest valid in-field certificate issued and appropriately verified experience.
