Position Summary:
Position Summary
- This position reports to the Director of Elementary Education.
- This position is funded with federal Title I funds – the position is dependent on the funding of the federal Title I reimbursements for the 2026-27 school year.
- This position requires the academic tutor to travel to non-public schools that are entitled to Title I bypass funding – locations vary depending on student eligibility and funding.
- This position is a part-time, non-benefits-eligible position.
- Hourly rate of pay is $25/hour.
Essential Functions:
- Provide targeted, research-based instruction in reading (e.g., phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension) and math (e.g., number sense, problem solving, foundational skills) aligned to grade-level standards.
- Deliver individualized or small-group tutoring sessions based on student needs and instructional goals.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles, abilities, and academic levels.
- Reinforce classroom instruction and support students in mastering core academic concepts.
- Assess student skills in reading and math to identify strengths, learning gaps, and instructional needs.
- Monitor and document student progress toward academic goals using formal and informal assessment methods.
- Adjust instructional strategies based on progress data and student response to intervention.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and intervention strategies aligned with curriculum standards.
- Create or adapt instructional materials and activities to support skill development in literacy and mathematics.
- Incorporate engaging, age-appropriate strategies (e.g., games, hands-on activities, guided practice) to promote learning.
- Communicate regularly with classroom teachers regarding student progress, instructional needs, and alignment with classroom instruction.
- Collaborate with staff, families, and support personnel to ensure consistency in instructional strategies and student supports.
- Provide feedback to students and caregivers regarding academic performance and strategies for improvement.
- Establish and maintain a positive, supportive learning environment that promotes student confidence and motivation.
- Encourage student independence, perseverance, and positive attitudes toward reading and math.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with students to support engagement and academic success.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student attendance, and progress data.
- Use instructional technology and educational resources to enhance learning experiences.
- Adhere to district policies, confidentiality requirements, and student privacy laws.
- Participate in professional development and ongoing training related to literacy and math intervention strategies.
Other Functions:
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education/Experience/Certificates:
Bachelor's degree required and a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in the areas of Elementary 1-6, Birth-3, or other core academic area.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on program and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
