Saline Area Schools Substitute Bus Driver
JOB DESCRIPTION
Substitute bus drivers support the students of Saline Area Schools by transporting them to and from school via scheduled routes and/or to/from special events, trips, etc. Drivers are responsible for ensuring the bus is in safe operating condition and ensuring the safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from the bus.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
- Excellent driving record with five (5) years experience.
- Able to meet all other requirements as set forth by the Michigan Department of Education and the MIchigan Department of Transportation for school bus drivers.
- Preference will be granted to those applicants who possess proper CDL license (B, P, S endorsements).
Required Experience
- Employee must be physically present and alert at all times when working to successfully perform this job.
- Must be able to physically perform the tasks of the job, (including but not limited to pre and post trip vehicle inspections, basic vehicle cleaning and assisting students when necessary)
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Follow precise schedules and routes.
- Adjust driving according to traffic and weather conditions.
- Follow rules of the road, ensuring safety of children.
- Maintain orderliness among children riding the bus.
- Monitor and promptly report any mechanical issues.
- Approximate substitute driving hours: 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 2:10 pm. - 5:00 p.m.; other bus trips are voluntary.

- Use computer systems and software applications (e.g., time tracking, facility work orders) as needed.
- Organize and coordinate tasks independently and effectively.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS
Work takes place in a schoo-aged environment requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina and environmental awareness. This position may involve sitting or standing for long periods. The employee should be comfortable in a loud environment and be able to withstand extended periods of noise.
WORK SCHEDULE

Before School Route Between ~6:00 AM - ~9:00 AM

After School Route Between ~2:15 PM - ~5:00 PM
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Per the ESP Contract
- This position is not eligible for benefits
SALARY
- Substitute rate $23.50 per hour
- Paid training at $17.50 per hour will be provided for acquisition of the proper CDL license (B, P, S endorsements).
