JAIL SUPERINTENDENT
Leadership of Corrections in Tazewell County
The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office is seeking an experienced corrections professional to serve as Jail Superintendent.
Reporting directly to the Sheriff, the Jail Superintendent serves as the chief administrator of all jail operations and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and professional direction.
This position offers an opportunity to lead a professional corrections team while ensuring the safe, secure, and constitutional operation of the facility through effective leadership, accountability, and innovation.
Position Responsibilities
• Overall administration and operation of the Tazewell County Jail
• Leadership and supervision of correctional command staff, officers, civilian employees, and contracted personnel
• Development and implementation of policies, procedures, and operational best practices
• Personnel management, including hiring, training, and discipline
• Administration of collective bargaining agreements and labor relation matters
• PREA compliance, accreditation efforts, inspections, audits, and regulatory compliance
• Budget preparation and fiscal management
• Oversight of inmate programs, medical services, commissary operations, and contractual services
• Critical incident management and internal investigations
• Preparation of reports, strategic recommendations, and operational updates for the Sheriff
• Coordination with courts, law enforcement agencies, county departments, community partners, and the public
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience within a correctional environment
• Illinois Correctional Officer certification or ability to obtain certification
• Valid Illinois Driver's License
• Successful completion of background investigation
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in a related field
• Jail Administrator or command-level corrections experience
• Experience administering collective bargaining agreements
• PREA management and audit experience
• Budgeting and contract administration experience
• Demonstrated success leading organizational change and staff development initiatives
