What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll & Tax Compliance Specialist position at Taymax Group?
The Payroll & Tax Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting with the timely and accurate preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll via Workday for approximately 3,000 employees in the United States and Canada. This includes processing salaried and hourly wages and remitting corresponding tax and benefit withholdings to the appropriate government agencies or outsourced vendors. In addition, the Specialist will process monthly or quarterly sales & use tax filings and/or annual personal property tax filings with certain state or local government agencies in support of the Accounting & Finance team. The ideal candidate can work both independently and collaboratively to meet recurring and off-cycle deadlines. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the Workday system and assisting the Payroll and Accounting & Finance teams to support the payroll process and ensure timely remittance of certain state and local taxes.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll via Workday under the supervision of the Payroll Manager
- Process off-cycle payroll requests for employee terminations in accordance with state regulations
- Coordinate with third-party vendor, ADP, to assist in preparing quarterly and annual wage and payroll tax filings
- Administer payroll-related benefits deductions and contributions
- Remit monthly or quarterly sales & use tax filings, annual personal property tax filings, and annual entity renewal filings to state and local governments under the supervision of the VP Finance & Controller
- Respond to inquiries from team members, other departments, and management in a timely manner
- Provide administrative support as directed by the Payroll Manager or VP Finance & Controller
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and other job-related duties as assigned
Skills & Other Qualifications:
- 2 years of payroll experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of processing multi location payroll in a system/ platform; Workday preferred
- Comfortable completing online or physical tax-related forms for remitting sales taxes, personal property taxes, or renewing annual filings
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Deadline-oriented
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong PC and technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds and operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and arms to reach, handle or feel.
