We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Boat Mechanic specializing in small engine repair to join our dynamic marine maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of water transportation equipment, including small engines, marine propulsion systems, and electrical systems. Your expertise will ensure that vessels operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics on marine engines, small engines, and electrical systems using schematics, technical drawings, and diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on marine propulsion systems, mechanical systems, and electrical components utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.
- Interpret technical diagrams and schematics to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues efficiently.
- Fabricate or modify parts using sheet metal fabrication techniques or welding to meet specific repair needs.
- Maintain safety standards by properly using personal protective equipment (PPE) during all repair procedures and adhering to safety protocols for heavy lifting and hazardous tasks.
- Assist with assembly, rigging, and installation of marine equipment or components as needed.
- Document all maintenance activities accurately in logs or reports to ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure water transportation equipment is maintained at peak performance levels for safety and reliability.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating repair status clearly and offering guidance on routine maintenance practices.
Experience
- Proven service technician experience with small engines, marine engines, or heavy machinery repair.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by electrical experience including troubleshooting marine electrical systems and diagnostics.
- Familiarity with schematics, technical drawings, assembly instructions, and interpreting technical diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with water transportation equipment maintenance such as boats or ships is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of marine propulsion systems maintenance, ship electrical systems troubleshooting, and engineering troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience working with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO), fabrication techniques, sheet metal work, welding, soldering, and the use of precision measuring instruments like calipers and ohmmeters.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs or installations.
- Prior military experience or certifications related to mechanical or electrical systems can be advantageous but are not required.
