The purpose of this position is to train to become a welder/fitter within the company.
Nature And Scope
- Welders’ knowledge of oxyfuel cutting, blueprint reading, base metal preheating, and welding will be gauged in the first days of this training.
- Welders will receive instruction on how to keep a clean and orderly workstation that will help them be highly productive.
- Welders will perform fillet welds (single and multi-pass), groove welds, oxyfuel cutting, and blueprint reading daily.
- Welders will fit, weld, and clean certain production parts that have been chosen by management for this training.
- Welders that show an advanced skill set will have the opportunity to advance through the training at a quicker pace.
- When welders have reached the point where they are deemed fit, or the end of training comes, they will be given the TMW/AWS welding test and fitter test.
- The fitter test will include reading a blueprint to fit, oxyfuel cut holes, and weld a predesigned test piece.
- The welding test will consist of:
- GMAW 1G on 3/8” plate with backing
- MCAW 1G on 1” plate with backing
- MCAW 2G on 1” plate with backing

- Previous welding experience and/or 6 months prior training.
