A garden center associate plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive customer experience and ensuring the smooth operation of a garden center or nursery. Along with maintaining plants, organizing merchandise, serving customers and monitoring the sales floor for security.
- Customer Assistance and Engagement:
- Assisting Customers: Garden associates serve as a helpful resource for customers. They aid customers with a wide range of inquiries, from choosing garden decor to selecting the right tree and shrub.
- Greeting Customers: When customers arrive, garden associates greet them warmly and address any questions they may have. Excellent customer service and engagement are essential.
- Product Knowledge: Associates continually update their knowledge about the products, plants and services offered by the garden center. They provide accurate information to customers.
Operational Tasks:
- Cash Registers: Garden associates operate cash registers, manage financial transactions, and balance drawers.
- Merchandise Presentation: Associates maintain a neat and orderly appearance throughout the sales floor, ensuring that products and displays are well-presented.
- Promotions and Upselling: They introduce opportunities and promotions to customers, cross-selling products to increase overall purchase amounts. Make recommendations to customers on new items, substitutions and other specials.
- Environmental Maintenance: Garden associates contribute to the overall beauty and cleanliness of the garden center environment. Including pulling weeds, fertilizing and pruning.
- Plant Maintenance: such as watering plants and becoming familiar with and examining products to maintain plant health.
- Answering phones and handle calls in a timely and professional manner.
Preferred skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Plant knowledge is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to operate store equipment (e.g., phones, cash registers, garden hoses).

Full-Time and Part-Time positions are available. Must be able to work a minimum of 3 days a week. This is a seasonal job but, has the potential to become a year round position.
Wage is dependent upon experience.
