Senior Legal Assistant (Litigation & Collections)
📍 Maywood, NJ (Hybrid)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Legal Assistant to support commercial rent recovery and legal enforcement efforts across a retail real estate portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of litigation, bankruptcy, and accounts receivable, managing matters from pre-litigation demand through post-judgment enforcement.
This is not a traditional in-house legal assistant role—success in this position requires comfort working on collections, payment disputes, and enforcement actions in a fast-paced, business-driven environment.
What You’ll Do
Litigation & Bankruptcy Support
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, complaints, affidavits, and related court filings
- Prepare exhibits, damages calculations, and documentation for filings and hearings
- Track case deadlines, hearings, and litigation milestones across multiple matters
- Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to manage workflow
Legal Collections & Enforcement
- Prepare demand letters, default notices, settlement agreements, and payment plans
- Support commercial rent recovery efforts, including dispute resolution with tenants
- Assist with judgment enforcement, including asset research and follow-up actions
Case & Process Management
- Maintain organized case files, legal documentation, and reporting trackers
- Manage legal correspondence and ensure timely filing/distribution of documents
- Provide regular status updates and recommend next steps on active matters
What We’re Looking For
- 3 years of experience in litigation support, legal collections, or bankruptcy
- Strong experience drafting legal documents and managing court filings
- Familiarity with litigation timelines, deadlines, and court procedures
- Comfortable working on collections and enforcement-related matters (not purely advisory legal work)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple active cases simultaneously
- Strong communication skills working with attorneys, business teams, and external partners
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management systems (e.g., Legal Tracker)
Preferred
- Experience with commercial real estate, lease enforcement, or rent recovery
- Prior experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Paralegal certificate or related legal education
Why This Role
- Direct exposure to litigation strategy, bankruptcy proceedings, and enforcement actions
- High-visibility role working across legal and business teams
- Opportunity to own cases end-to-end, not just provide administrative support
Salary : $75,000 - $90,000
