What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Services Clerk (Part-Time) position at Taylor Community Library?
The Youth Services Clerk is a part-time position that includes library programming for youth ages 0-18 (with a focus on middle and high school age groups) and library circulation duties. A successful candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, experience and interest in working with children and teens, and strong organization, teamwork, and communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Perform circulation desk duties including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, placing and pulling holds, answering questions and phone calls, and shelving and organizing library materials
· Assist patrons in locating materials in the library as well as using the library’s computers, printing services, and other resources
· Plan, develop, and conduct programs for youth ages 0-18, with a focus on ages 10-18, by working closely with the Youth Services Coordinator
· Visit schools and other community locations to promote the library and conduct programming as needed
· Create flyers, social media posts, and other materials to promote library programs
· Assist the Library Director and Youth Services Coordinator in collection development and maintenance of the juvenile and young adult collections
· Participate in state and local library system events, workshops, and committees
· Maintain and develop the Children’s and Teen areas of the library with oversight from the Library Director and Youth Services Coordinator
· Complete projects and other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
· Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact courteously with the public and with coworkers
· Ability to work independently and take initiative to complete assigned tasks
· Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written forms, including public speaking
· Ability to follow established procedures and policies
· Reliability and punctuality
· Prior experience working with children and teens strongly preferred
· Familiarity with computers and an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Canva, and Facebook and Instagram social media platforms
· Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle
· High school diploma or GED required
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
· The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak, hear, reach, and lift. The employee must also be able to sit or stand for several hours.
· The employee is required to read computer screens frequently.
· The employee must be able to reach, bend, kneel, crouch, push, and lift up to 40 pounds.
· The employee must be adaptable to changing work hours.
Hours & Salary:
· Part-time position at 20 hours per week
· Weekday evenings and some Saturdays are required
· Starting hourly rate of $14.01 to $15.41 based on experience
· Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave for part-time employees are contingent on meeting eligibility requirements
Hiring and continued employment are contingent on satisfactory passage of PA Criminal History and Child Abuse Clearances. Pennsylvania Child Abuse check, Criminal History check, and FBI fingerprint check are required at the employee’s expense at the time of hire.
Pay: $14.01 - $15.41 per hour
