Retail Sales Associate
We are seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused Retail Sales Associate to join our music store team. This role specializes in assisting students, parents, educators, and musicians with band and orchestra instruments, accessories, rentals, and educational resources. The ideal candidate enjoys helping customers, has strong communication skills, and is passionate about supporting music education in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and provide exceptional customer service.
- Assist students, parents, and educators in selecting appropriate band and orchestra instruments and accessories.
- Explain instrument rental, purchase, financing, and protection plan options.
- Demonstrate basic features and care of brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments.
- Recommend music books, reeds, strings, cases, cleaning supplies, and other accessories based on customer needs.
- Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system.
- Maintain attractive merchandise displays and ensure the sales floor is clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Receive and replenish inventory as needed.
- Coordinate with the repair department regarding instrument repairs, maintenance, and customer pickups.
- Build relationships with local school music programs, directors, students, and families.
- Follow up with customers regarding rentals, special orders, and service requests.
- Stay current on product knowledge, manufacturer offerings, and school instrument requirements.
- Meet individual and team sales goals while maintaining a customer-first approach.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge of band and orchestra instruments is strongly preferred.
- Experience as a school band or orchestra student, private instructor, or musician is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn product specifications and rental procedures.
- Basic computer and point-of-sale proficiency.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and move instrument cases and merchandise as needed.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal peak periods.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with beginning band and orchestra instrument selection.
- Understanding of instrument care and maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students of all ages, parents, and music educators.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
