Multi-Unit District Manager - Boston

Tatte Bakery & Cafe
Boston, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/2/2026
At Tatte, we believe it’s craft that connects us — from every pastry baked to every guest interaction. The Multi Unit District Manager plays a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping the performance, culture, and growth of 5–8 cafés. This leader is both a strategist and a coach: developing the next generation of General Managers and Head Chefs, driving sustainable business results, and representing Tatte in the communities we serve.

If you thrive on scaling operational excellence, leading through influence, and leaving a lasting cultural imprint, this is your opportunity to grow with one of the most admired brands in the café-bakery space.

Key Responsibilities

Lead & Develop Teams

  • Mentor/inspire a team of GMs, Head Chefs, & café managers—building a strong leadership bench for the future.
  • Reinforce clear performance expectations and hold teams accountable to results.
  • Drive succession planning and talent pipelines; identify and accelerate the growth of high-potential managers.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Address team challenges with professionalism and proactive support.
  • Identify and develop high-potential talent for future leadership roles.
  • Responsible for hiring and staffing levels across cafés, including exempt & non-exempt team members.
  • Lead with and model company values, creating a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and hospitality excellence.

Operational & Brand Excellence

  • Ensure every café delivers on Tatte’s promise of uncompromising quality, seamless hospitality, and a warm, welcoming environment.
  • Implement consistent systems and standards across cafés while tailoring support to local market dynamics.
  • Lead café transitions, contribute to new café openings, and steward district-wide rollouts.
  • Partner with managers to build effective daily routines and operational accountability.
  • Ensures Food Safety at all cafes within district, including all food safe processes and standards, and drives immediate resolution to any deviation from standard.
  • Interface with cross-functional department partners to ensure seamless communication and coordination of deployments and change management activities.
  • Creates an environment fostering trust, integrity, respect, initiative, accountability, open communication and teamwork.
  • Provides expertise on company policies and procedures and immediately address any lapses in compliance with corporate policies or local, state and federal laws.

Business & Financial Performance

  • Own the district P&L: analyze trends, identify growth opportunities, and deliver financial results through operational discipline.
  • Optimize labor and food costs, improve forecasting accuracy, and ensure resources align with demand.
  • Use metrics and dashboards to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and respond to sales trends, performance opportunities, and local dynamics.

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner closely with HR, Culinary, Training, Marketing, and Facilities to drive district priorities.
  • Act as a culture-carrier and change agent, ensuring new initiatives are embraced and embedded.
  • Balance day-to-day execution with long-term development of people and business.
  • Maintain focus under pressure, adjusting priorities based on changing needs.
  • Use data, café feedback, and operational reporting to guide decisions and improvements.
  • Set clear goals and ensure alignment and execution across all locations.

Qualifications (what We’re Looking For)

  • 5 years of multi-unit leadership experience (restaurant, café, or hospitality; polished fast casual or full-service preferred).
  • Proven success leading high-volume operations and developing managers into senior leaders.
  • Strong financial acumen with a track record of delivering both margin and top-line growth.
  • Exceptional communication, emotional intelligence, and influencing skills; leads through empowerment, not micromanagement.
  • Hands-on, visible leader who thrives in dynamic, growth-oriented environments.

Working Conditions / Essential Functions

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as respond to emergencies as required.
  • Ability to work 10 hour shifts, stand, sit, walk, squat, or climb stairs for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform other physical tasks typical of a fast-paced café environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Degree in Hospitality Management or related field (B.S. or A.S. preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with UltiPro (UKG), Toast POS, and CrunchTime/TeamworX systems.
  • Current ServSafe, Allergen, and ChokeSaver certifications.

  • 401(k) (with a vesting match)
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
