Job Summary:

The Controller is responsible for the management of all aspects of the Accounting Department and financial operations. This position involves the ability to make informed decisions regarding company finances and business operations.

 

Compensation: Starting at $90,000 p/yr Depending on Experience (DoE)
Schedule: M-F 8:00AM - 5:00PM Additional early morning, night, and weekend hours may be required by operational necessity.

Essential Functions:

  1. Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.  Recommend deleting really a CFO responsibility
  2. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  3. Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  4. Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.  Recommend deleting really a CFO responsibility
  5. Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  6. Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  7. Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.  Recommend deleting really a CFO responsibility
  8. Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  9. advise management on actions regarding the purchase, lease, or disposal of capitalized assets.
  10. Prepare and file annual tax returns or prepare financial information for accountants to complete audit and tax forms.
  11. Delegate authority for the receipt disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments.
  12. Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  13. Authorize disbursements in accordance with policies and procedures.
  14. Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel as well as, Department of Transportation and USPS to facilitate financial and operational activities.
  15. Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment of the company.
  16. Perform various month end, quarter end and year end closing processes.
  17. Perform computerized bank reconciliation process.
  18. Reviews and/or prepares information for local, state, and federal reporting.
  19. Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and/or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  20. Prepare and submit Department of Transportation reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  21. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
  22. Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff; recommend and implement personnel actions such as promotions and dismissals.
  23. Oversee the accounting operations of various related entities.
  24. Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Qualifications: 

  1. Valid Driver’s License is required.
  2. Must be able to pass an Airport Background Criminal History Check.
  3. Must be able to work effectively in a drug-free workplace and comply with company drug and alcohol policies.
  4. Must be able available to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules.
  5. Proficient in computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is preferred.
  6. Requires bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  7. Requires 5-7 years of overall accounting experience with at least 2 – 3 years in a management or supervisory role.   
  8. Requires the ability to coordinate with a variety of Management personnel and must be self-motivated, organized, and comfortable with frequent change.
  9. Thorough understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  10. Ability to operate 10 keys by touch.
  11. Knowledge of business and management principles, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
  12. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  13. More in line with the CFO’s responsibility.
