Part-Time After School Counselor - Preschool & Kindergarten

Looking for a part-time job that actually works with a college schedule?

Tate's School is hiring an After School Counselor to work specifically with our preschool and kindergarten students. The hours are simple: Monday through Friday, 3:00-6:00 p.m. No nights. No weekends.

For those three hours, your job is to help a group of young children have a safe, active, and genuinely good end to their school day.

This is not a job where you stand on the sidelines and supervise from a distance. You'll play games, head outside, help with activities, talk with kids, solve the occasional disagreement, and be one of the adults they are excited to see each afternoon.

What You'll Actually Do

• Get to know the children in your group and help them feel comfortable, included, and successful.
• Lead and participate in games, art, movement, outdoor play, and other activities.
• Supervise children closely and keep safety first.
• Help children work through everyday problems, friendships, and disagreements.
• Bring energy to the program instead of just watching from the sidelines.
• Work alongside other counselors, teachers, and directors.
• Help keep activity spaces organized and ready for the next day.

• Can also be calm, patient, and firm when children need direction.
• Want a consistent afternoon job that fits around morning college classes.
• Are studying education, child development, psychology, social work, recreation, or another people-focused field and want real experience working with children.
• Have experience babysitting, coaching, tutoring, volunteering, working at camp, or helping with children in another setting.
• Want a job where you know the people you work with and aren't just another name on a schedule.

Previous professional childcare experience is helpful, but it is not required. We can teach you how our program works. We can't teach reliability, kindness, or the desire to be involved.

A Few Things That Matter to Us

Our kids depend on the same people being here each afternoon, so dependability matters. We need someone who can consistently be at Tate's and ready to work by 3:00 p.m.

You'll also need to be comfortable being active. Our counselors spend time indoors and outdoors, participate in activities with children, and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

And during those three hours, your phone stays put away. We want our staff paying attention to the kids and to each other.

Requirements

• High school diploma or currently a high school senior in good standing
• Reliable availability Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
• Genuine interest in working with preschool and kindergarten-age children
• Ability to participate actively in indoor and outdoor activities
• Positive attitude and willingness to receive coaching and feedback
• Professional and dependable communication
• Ability to successfully complete a background check and drug screening
