Accounts Payable Associate

The Accounts Payable Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the finance department at TARTA by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this position involves performing accounts payable tasks, record keeping, and contributing to the month-end process and year-end audit process.

TARTA has recently embarked on a transformational journey with the passage of Issue 12 in 2021. This local sales tax levy has significantly increased the local investment into the transit authority and has also expanded its service area to all of Lucas County and the City of Rossford in Wood County. In response to the local community’s renewed focus and support of TARTA, the Board adopted TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase services, invest in capital assets such as new mobility hubs and a zero-emissions bus fleet, and to improve customer experience through investments in technology, bus shelters, signage, and customer outreach. This transformation is well underway and powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department, from the leadership team to every front-line team member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Verify purchase order and post accounts payable transactions to ledgers and databases.


• Regularly track, review, and close purchase orders.


• Match, batch, code, and pay vendor invoices.


• Participate in month-end close activities.


• Monitor and order office supplies for the administrative office.


• Maintain confidentiality of financial information.


• Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced finance department, while adhering to established accounting standards.


• Assist with year-end audit requests.


• Execute accurate reporting and filing in multiple systems.


• Secures financial information and keeps information confidential.


• Continue training with classes, workshops, and networking events.


• Document and maintain Accounts Payable processes and operating procedures.


• Perform additional accounting tasks when needed that are applicable to the Finance Department.


• May require minimal driving to off-site locations and or postal locations

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn new systems quickly

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. 

• Proficiency in mathematics


• Strong attention to detail and accuracy


• Excellent organizational and communication skills


• Experience with ERP systems is advantageous


• Valid Driver’s License and insurable

Education and Experience

• An associate's degree in accounting is preferred


• At least 2 years of accounts payable and procurement experience preferred

Physical Effort Required

The Accounts Payable Associate position requires continuous sitting (5.5 to 8 hours), occasional standing (0.25 to 2.5 hours), and occasional walking (0.25 to 2.5 hours). Occasional lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds (0.25 to 2.5 hours) is required, with no lifting/carrying of 20 pounds or more. Reaching above shoulder level and bending/stooping (0.25 to 2.5 hours) are also necessary. Fine manipulation is required frequently (2.5 to 5.5 hours). No driving or pushing/pulling required; moderate stress level.
