Summary
The Epidemiology Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of TB Prevention & Control division of the Public Health Department including investigating TB cases and suspecting and associating investigations which includes the identification and follow-up of all contacts e.g., skin test, x-ray, medical clinic appointments and ninety (90) day repeat TST’s. Responsible for all high-risk screening activities along with other duties assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Contacts investigation interview, works up testing and referrals for TB cases and suspects
- Responsible for all paperwork related to contact investigation
- Performs high risk screening activities
- Locates, transports and medicates patients
- Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and forms, equipment, methods and techniques used to provide counseling services
- Knowledge of principles and practices of public health education; pertinent federal, state, and local codes laws and regulations; communicable disease and how to protect themselves from disease process.
- Understanding of filing system and maintaining a large changing database
- Ability to work without constant supervision
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Public Health, Natural Science, or a related field, and two (2) full-time years of increasingly responsible disease counseling or prevention experience, required OR
- An Associate’s degree/LVN with four (4) full-time years of TB/STD/HIV experience required.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.
