Summary

Part-Time position 25-28 hours per week

Provide support and operational assistance to probation officers and supervisors in the handling of juveniles referred for law violations, specifically in activities such as JJAEP, mediation and other specialized program activities. Assist with probation monitoring, transportation, court reports, daily program activities, and referral to and follow up with community resources. Develop and maintain monthly and annual statistical program reports including training records, contractors' activities reports and mediation reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists with providing supervision of some cases under the supervision of the juvenile court and juvenile services
2. Assists with the preparation of court reports for some court proceedings
3. Attends court hearings and provides information to the court as requested
4. Monitors the progress of juvenile and family toward court-ordered conditions of supervision such as attendance in JJAEP and participation in court-ordered treatment; notifies supervisor of probationers who violate conditions
5. Arranges, coordinates and facilitates access to community agencies and service providers such as mediation for treatment and monitoring
6. Maintains program records of specialized programs
7. Represents specialized programs in court and conducts student entry and exit in the program including program intake and administering pre and post assessments
8. Provides transportation for juvenile and family to court and appointments to school, community service and other appointments as necessary
9. Creates juvenile files in computer, inputs information reflecting contacts and case work activities and updates database
10. Coordinates action with staff and outside authorities concerning the status of cases
11. Under the direction of the supervisor, manages program needs for bus passes, supplies and uniforms
12. Maintains training records and prepares application for submission to TJRC for certification and recertification of probation officers
13. Processes transmission of juvenile offender history to the Texas Department of Public Safety
14. Assists with the management of students including classroom behavior and parent conferences
15. Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree or 60 hours of college.
  • One (1) full-time year of experience in a related field - or equivalent education and experience.
  • Keyboarding experience, familiarity with standard computer software programs, and good organizational skills.
  • Bilingual skills are helpful.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records.
  • Position may also be required to complete non-violent restraint training.
If hired, you must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, stand and ride. Must be able to use non-violent physical restraint to manage clients when there is threat of injury.
