Inventory Control and Manufacturing Cost Accountant

Tarr LLC, a leading independent chemical distributor is currently seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and results driven self-starter for our Inventory Control & Manufacturing Cost Accountant Position with Inventory and Manufacturing ERP System Admin Responsibilities to be based in either our Phoenix, Arizona or Portland, Oregon location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for managing the Inventory Master file and ensuring compliance to policy and procedure. Reviewing for consistency and identification of discontinued products.
• Sets up new products, blend products and packaging items applying standard procedures for required fields in ERP system. Verifies that existing product codes do not already exist. Communicates product information and product codes to other functional areas, including Compliance, Quality, and Operations.
• Responsible for setup and maintenance of product formulas and their revisions in the ERP system at the direction of production, sales, and/or quality control. This includes listing specific work instructions and process/product related data capture and notations.
• System Administration for the Warehousing and Manufacturing Modules of the ERP.
• Data Extraction and analysis from ERP System for Inventory Transactions, development of key metrics, and Troubleshooting.
• Prepares and directs routine cycle counts of specific inventory products and consumable supply items. This includes all ethanol inventories required for external reporting compliance at least monthly.
• Directs full physical count of all inventories (Finished Good, Raw Materials, Packaging, and Consumable Supply Items) on semi-annually basis. Reconciles physical count to perpetual count in accounting system. Requires travel to facilities.
• Research with Operations personnel reported or identified inventory discrepancies to determine root cause and process improvements for tracking product quantities and product costing, and accurate recovery of labor and overhead costs.
• Responsible to determine the need to make adjusting transactions to correct inventory balances, correcting either on hand quantities and/or average cost as needed, ensuring lot numbers and representation in transaction history is properly documented.
• Responsible for understanding tracking and reporting requirements to external government agencies with inventory flow reporting and coordination with excise tax payments.
• Prepares and reviews the Dead Stock/Slow Moving Inventory Report and works with operations to formulate plans for the use, rework, or disposal of the products.
• Routinely reviews labor and overhead costing rates and application to production formulas for cost absorption. Through process observation and discussion with operations and sales personnel, tracks and analyze the labor, analytical costs, other consumable elements associated with completion of production activities.
• Provides training, support and backup as needed to employees interact with inventory transactions from Purchase Order to Invoicing, and product returns.
• Conduct root cause analysis to identify when more information is required and where processes can be improved.
• Assists Sales and Management with various reports and information when needed for margin impact.
• Monthly Inv Variance/PPV/Disposal/Freight Variance General Ledger reconciliations.
• Must comply with all company safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Works within the Tarr Systems Manual built upon the framework of ISO 9001 Quality Management System and Responsible Distribution Process requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• Accounting Education – minimum two-year associates degree or equivalent work experience with perpetual computerized inventory and product costing.
• Experience with ERP Systems, integrated computer systems to include order entry, inventory control, and production modules is required.
• Work experience with inventory management systems in automated lot-controlled batch manufacturing environment, where troubleshooting inventory accuracy and standard product costing were prevalent responsibilities.
• Intermediate to Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products including word, excel and outlook email required. Extracting Data from Tables, creating Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Sum-ifs.
• Previous experience and knowledge of excise taxes preferred.
• Willing to travel to other sites or conferences on a scheduled basis.
• Requires solid math aptitude for weights and measure conversions, and effects of temperature.
• Must possess problem-solving, troubleshooting, and accounting reconciliation skills.
• Natural curiosity to develop understanding of business processes and advance process improvement recommendations.
• Ability to work with little supervision while handling multiple priorities.
• Ability to prioritize workload and utilize time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Detail oriented with an acumen for accuracy and thoroughness in defining process procedure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and etiquette over the phone, email, meetings, and individually with others.
• Chemical product and Chemical Distribution industry related knowledge preferred and/or a willingness to learn required.
• Positive, personable, demonstrating a professional demeanor and appearance.
