The purpose of this position is to provide effective and efficient operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and associated lift stations ensuring that all State and Federal regulations are met. Performs a variety of supervisory duties and evaluates and maintains required files and records and prepares various reports as required.
This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Covers shifts when required to maintain permit compliance.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Directs the daily operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Ensures that public health and the environment are adequately protected.
- Verifies that discharges to waters meet permit limitations on the quality of the discharge.
- Within span of control, verifies that wastewater overflows are prevented to the highest practical degree.
- Ensures that any sewage spills or overflows are urgently addressed, investigated, repaired, and reported according to approved procedures.
- Works and directs staff during storm events and declared emergencies.
- After-hours facility monitoring callouts during call duty.
- Prepares required State and Federal reports, correspondence, etc., including NPDES and FDEP regulatory reports, charts, logs and maintenance sheets.
- Coordinates outside contracts and services pertinent to plant operations.
- Assists in the preparation of construction and maintenance cost estimates, and related specifications.
- Performs construction review and contract administration as assigned.
- Maintains plant security.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
- Six years of wastewater plant operations to include supervisory or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- Wastewater Operations A License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Group B
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs heavy work that may involve constantly lifting, shoveling, and carrying 50 to 75 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
