Direct Support Professional

Job description:

Searching for energetic individuals to work with children and adults who receive services from the Children's Mental Health Waiver (CMHW) or Intellectual Disability Waiver (IDW). You will work with them to build life skills while out in the community by providing Family and Community Support Services (FCS) and Supported Community Living (SCL). Great opportunity for someone who has a full time job looking to make some extra money, or students who would like experience in the social work field. We are currently looking for someone to provide services to both adults and children in the Ankeny/ Bondurant/ Altoona area. Must be available to work evenings after school. Hours available vary from 6 hours/ week up to 20 hours/ week.

Duties:

- Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities or a mental health diagnosis.

- Teach life skills such as anger management, social skills, communication skills.

- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and minimize challenging behaviors

- Support individuals in participating in social and recreational activities

- Document and maintain accurate records of care provided

- Independently maintain a weekly schedule with clients

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Previous experience in a similar role preferred

- Ability to lift and assist individuals with mobility limitations, if needed

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Valid driver's license and car insurance

- Have reliable form of communication/phone, and access to a personal computer for documentation

- Must be able to pass criminal background and DHS Abuse Registries.

As it is an independent contractor position, no benefits are offered. Travel to and from client's homes in Ankeny and the surrounding area, and around the community is required.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 6 per week
