Lift Operators provide safe and efficient uphill transportation while providing an excellent guest service experience.

This job description is intended to give a broad description of duties. You will be asked to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential responsibilities of this job are outlined below. In addition, you will sometimes be asked to perform tasks not specifically mentioned in this job description or completely outside your area of responsibility.

After a training period, lift operators must be capable of performing these essential job functions and adhering to these procedures:

  • Responsible for maintaining an enthusiastic and professional work environment consistent with the policies of Taos Ski Valley, Inc. resulting in high employee morale, motivation, and guest satisfaction in an atmosphere of continuous improvement.
  • Able to ride chairlift unassisted and to ski or snowboard to lift stations.
  • Ensure the proper opening and closing of the assigned lift(s).
  • Monitor and complete lift area set-up, signage, and snow maintenance/removal on a regular basis (up to 8 hours per day) and make changes when needed. Coordinate with leadership team regarding lift area needs.
  • Shape and maintain loading and unloading ramps to proper specifications of assigned lift(s) throughout the day.
  • Place, and/or replace, all required signs, perimeter ropes, evacuation pads, etc.
  • Aid in the completion of daily lift logs.
  • Assists our guests as they load the lift and occasionally able to load children up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the operation of main and auxiliary drives, service and emergency brakes, control circuits and telephones for all lifts to which you are assigned.
  • Takes direction with a positive "can do" attitude.
  • Understands and follows all department safety protocols and procedures, while providing a high level of guest service and work ethic.
  • Follow all company policies set forth in the Employee Handbook and the Ski Lift Operations Guide.
  • Contact the designated individuals for answers to questions regarding emergencies, maintenance, and service.
  • Follows all company procedures for mechanical failures, lift evacuation, adverse weather conditions or any other occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the passengers or lift equipment.
  • Assist in assuring the operation of the lifts in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations of the United States Forest Service, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), TSV Liability Insurance policy and company policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a team culture that provides a wonderful guest experience.
  • Have complete working knowledge of the Ski Safety Act and its application to our ski mountain.
  • Materials and equipment directly used include; skis/snowboard, shovels, hand tools, power

    tools, and heavy machinery (lifts).
  • Reliable attendance on all scheduled workdays.
  • Reliable attendance on early snow mornings (1 – 2 hours early).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must be 18 years of age or older. Previous Lift Operations experience is a plus.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests. Ability to speak clearly over the radio and phone.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Attention to details. Possess and promote a high level of situational awareness.
  • Intermediate level skier/rider.
  • Must be able to function effectively at elevations of 10,000 feet or higher.
  • Must be able to function effectively in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Taos Ski Valley, Inc. is often a fast-paced work environment, especially during Holiday and Peak days. TSVI is located in a high-altitude alpine environment. Position may require travel on uneven, snow-packed, or icy terrain and may be exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions. Must be able to work in close quarters and with other staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, feel, assemble/disassemble; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and be able to shovel/move snow up to 8 hours per day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
