To conducts the data collection phase of the Sleep Study and as needed scores the completed study. The technologist will follow approved policies and protocols in order to prepare a study and or score in preparation for reading. This person will be held to high level of customer service representation and will be an active participant of our continuous quality improvement process.

Education
High School Diploma or GED

Experience
One year of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.

Licenses & Certifications
*Healthcare Provider (CPR) within 30 days from hire.
*Registered Polysomnographic Tech

Qualifications:

Area of Responsibilities
*Acts as preceptor/mentor for students and new employees
*Participates in performance improvement activities by helping to identify, monitor and achieve improvement goals established by the department.
*Performs sleep studies per policy and protocol and within the guidelines of regulatory agencies. Demonstrates capability of utilizing equipment and software. This also includes appropriate documentation of study and maintenance of sufficient supplies for doing work.
*Provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees. Through the established systems and protocols used to evaluate staff for excellent customer service employee will achieve the set goals.
*Responsible for maintaining all professional registrations and certifications
*Accurately evaluates self and meets pre-established professional goals
*Communicates effectively and therapeutically in health care setting
*Demonstrate adherence to AASM scoring parameters for OCST. identify artifact, inadequate signals and study failures and generate an accurate report
*Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices
*Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download
*Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of the population(s) served. Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately with various ages. Demonstrates ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of the patient served. As appropriate involves family/significant other in the treatment process.
*Demonstrates the ability to set priorities to complete daily assignments
*Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory
*Knowledgeable of department policies and procedures and standards of care/practice
*Maintain current CPR or BLS certification
*Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of department and equipment
*Participates in continuing education as mandated per policy.
*Participates in multi disciplinary patient care conferences.
*Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for out of center sleep testing
*Provide patient education utilizing sleep center specific protocols
*Score sleep wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards

Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Definitions

Supervisory Responsibility
Has limited supervision over a small section of employees (up to 15), i.e. assigns and directs their work; instructs new employees and corrects results, may discuss with supervisor, but has no authority over job content or personnel. Team governance where the Members evaluate, interview, and recommend personnel actions.

Mental Demands
Work involves a variety of problems in a general field, some of which are complex. Involves some independent judgment to decide what to do to assemble facts, determine variations from standard procedures, or plan other action to be taken to meet general objectives.

Physical Effort
Minor physical effort - Job requires person to stand and/or walk frequently. Lifts, carries, or uses lightweight (1 to 25 lbs.) materials or equipment less than half of the day. Works in reaching or strained position intermittently. Office or laboratory work requires close visual effort less than half of day. Office or Laboratory work with concentration on a monotonous, repetitious procedure or skill most of day, where speed and accuracy are essential.

Working Conditions
Minor - Occasionally involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
