Job Description

Annualized Potential Starting Earnings of $75,000

The Paramedic will be responsible for providing Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care, Advanced Life Support (ALS) patient care, and ambulance transportation.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

One year of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.

Qualifications:

Knowledge: * Emergency clinical practices and protocol * Use of medical and related emergency equipment * Local geography

Behavioral and Technical Skills: * Act calmly and quickly in emergencies * Work independently as part of a team, sometimes alongside emergency fire and police units * Create and maintain a positive and cooperative working environment in stressful situations * Work during odd hours and for extended periods, sometimes outdoors and in adverse weather conditions * Work with much standing, bending and kneeling * Work with a partner in lifting patients whose weight occasionally exceeds 200 pounds * Avoid or minimize health risks from exposure to ill patients

Technical Skills: * Exercising judgment, dexterity, and physical coordination * Preparing clear and concise reports * Driving emergency vehicles

Georgia Paramedic License required

Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a motor vehicle record (MVR) check and meeting insurability requirements. A minimum of two (2) years of driving experience is required.

Functions

Area of Responsibilities

Maintains units and equipment in a clean, organized and ready condition after each response.

Provides emergency and non-emergency ambulance operations in conjunction with a partner, demonstrating excellent driving judgement and due regard for public safety during operation and positioning of unit.

Ensures proper fuel, fluid and tire pressure levels at all times. Reports equipment damage or malfunction as prescribed.

Responsible for knowledge of state, federal and regulatory agency rules and regulations, EMS guidelines, policies and procedures (including OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen regulations, restraint and pain management requirements) and standards of Paramedic practice. Evaluates self and meets pre-established professional goals. Participates in required annual health system and EMS specific continuing education.

Maintains a through working knowledge of local geography, including mapping, street and grid book systems.

Act as a resource to students, new employees and other personnel. Assist other staff members in providing care. Timely attendance at staff meetings and mandatory in-service training. Show consideration for the team by reporting on time for shift and handling shared duties

Completes all daily station duties and maintains crew quarters in neat and serviceable conditions.

Responds to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, safe and efficient manner to quickly assess the scene and request other help if needed.

Provides ALS patient care in accordance with established ACLS and BTLS guidelines and observing prescribed local protocols and clinical practices. Diagnoses and treats patient with appropriate techniques, resources and equipment.

Completes appropriate medical records and transportation reports.

Maintains a through working knowledge of current Paramedic standards of care, including equipment function and use.

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Working Conditions: Extreme - Constantly involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
