Requirements
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, and eye health.
- Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct vision problems.
- Diagnose eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
- Prescribe medication for eye infections, allergies, and other eye-related issues.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices, including the use of eyewear, contact lens hygiene, and preventive measures.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.
- Keep accurate and detailed patient records.
- Stay updated with advancements in optometry and attend continuing education programs to maintain licensure and enhance skills.
- Provide excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and manage various eye conditions.
- Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution
- Pass the national board examination
- Active state optometry license
- Proficiency in computer-based skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal relations skills
