Role Description: This is a full-time, on-site Applications Engineer role based in Kaukauna, WI. The Applications Engineer will translate customer process requirements into engineered air pollution control solutions, including equipment selection, system design, and performance specifications. Daily responsibilities include reviewing technical data, preparing proposals, supporting system configuration, and collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure integrated solutions. The role also involves providing technical support to sales, participating in testing and validation activities, and assisting with commissioning and troubleshooting in industrial environments. The Applications Engineer will prepare documentation, maintain project records, and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and application tools.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Correspond with customers to identify needs and opportunities.
  • Review potential solutions and select proper technology to fit customer need and budget.
  • Develop costing for technical solutions including equipment sizing, component selection, fabrication cost and installation requirements.
  • Author well-defined scope of work documents / drawings outlining project requirements.
  • Create high-quality proposal documents for company and customer approval.
  • Seek feedback and identify opportunities for new products and services.
  • Track actual vs. planned project costs, adjusting accordingly to stay within budget.
  • Provide excellent customer service, at customer location(s) and at corporate office, to ensure customer’s needs are met.
  • Create and present information to customers about TANN products and services.
  • Complete FID testing at customer locations to verify equipment function.
  • Complete in-house testing of customer samples to select appropriate solutions.
  • Candidates should possess Testing skills for supporting system performance verification, data analysis, and compliance documentation.
  • Relevant qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with industrial process equipment, air pollution control systems, or thermal oxidation technologies is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills, along with the ability to work safely in industrial environments, are important.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline) OR high school diploma or equivalent, plus prior experience in an industrial environment such as: Sheet metal fabrication, Steam fitting, Millwright work, Electrical trades, Capital equipment installation or maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial systems, components, and processes.
  • Possess the ability to perform the essential physical job functions/responsibilities of the position with high attention to detail in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Exercise independent judgement and initiative, with minimal direction
  • Possess strong mathematic and analytical skills
  • Can accurately measure distance, diameter, airflow, temperature, etc.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other departments and team members
  • Prioritize and work on multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints, layouts, BOM, PLC programs, P&ID and other types of work orders/instructions.
  • Understanding safety practices and procedures and continually implement them in the workplace or while working remotely, maintaining a Low Risk Tolerance and High-Risk Awareness

Preferred:

  • Three to five years of experience in an applications engineering, process engineering, technical sales, or manufacturing engineering role, preferably within industrial equipment, packaging, converting, or automation industries.
  • Experience evaluating customer requirements and translating them into technical solutions, equipment configurations, and project specifications.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, mechanical systems, and industrial automation principles.
  • Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and CAD models; familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar design software is preferred.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, cost estimates, and customer presentations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, sales teams, engineering, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and customer training is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ERP/CRM systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as required, to support customer visits, equipment startups, and trade shows.
