Position Summary
The Engineering Support Specialist provides structured, detail-oriented support to Tangent’s Engineering, Support, Sales and Operations teams by assisting with troubleshooting, configuration support, documentation, feasibility analysis, and coordination with vendors, the sales team and customers.
This role is support focused. Success in this role depends on strong organization, follow-through, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly across departments, with external partners and customers.
Core Responsibilities
Hardware & Technical Support
- Provide escalated support to internal teams and customers via phone and email.
- Assist with troubleshooting issues across Tangent’s hardware product lines, including All-in-One systems, compact computers, and tablets.
- Support pre-sales and post-sales configuration questions related to hardware capabilities and compatibility.
- Execute validation, testing, and verification tasks for new, existing hardware products and revisions under direction from Engineering.
Support for Engineering
- Assist Engineering with:
- Hardware reviews and feasibility analysis
- BOM reviews and documentation
- Test execution and data collection
- Research tasks
- Follow established engineering instructions and procedures precisely.
- Assist in establishing instructions and procedures for existing and new products.
- Escalate technical findings, risks, or blockers clearly and promptly.
Customer, Vendor & CM Coordination
- Serve as a support liaison between Engineering, Customer Support, Sales, vendors, and contract manufacturers.
- Track new hardware releases and component changes from vendors.
- Escalate issues to vendors or CMs as directed and follow through until resolution.
- Ensure customers and internal stakeholders receive timely, accurate updates.
Process, Organization & Follow-Through
- Create and maintain:
- Project-specific checklists
- Status trackers
- Hardware configuration and support documentation
- Track timelines, deliverables, and dependencies to ensure tasks stay on schedule.
- Provide regular written and verbal updates to managers and stakeholders.
- Follow deadlines closely and flag delays early.
Research & Analysis
- Use AI tools and traditional research methods to:
- Research product feasibility
- Investigate hardware issues
- Research compatibility questions
- Compare vendor and component options
- Other research tasks
- Summarize findings clearly for non-technical audiences.

Technical Requirements
- Broad familiarity with Windows-based computer hardware and software, including:
- Windows installation (7, 10, 11)
- Driver configuration and troubleshooting
- Common hardware issue diagnosis
- Working knowledge of:
- HDDs and SSDs
- Ethernet and wireless standards
- Serial ports and connectors
- Chipsets, processors, and hardware generations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft-based project and CRM tools.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- CompTIA A certification or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in:
- Technical support
- Systems support
- Engineering or hardware support roles
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for short periods.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
- Occasional travel for onsite troubleshooting, trade shows, or customer engagements.
Work Environment
This role is onsite at Tangent’s Burlingame headquarters.
