Job Summary



Job Summary: The Job incumbent will develop, teach, evaluate and track training for community health aides at all levels of training. Conduct Preceptorships. Direct medical supervisor for Itinerant health aides. Provide direct patient care at CAIHC.

Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the general supervision of the CHAP-CHC director and Rural Medical Director, job incumbent will:

1. Develop lesson plans, teach and evaluate health aides in training for CME, basic skills/pre-session and preceptorships.

2. Track individual training needs through utilizing an Access and Excel database(s). Prioritize training needs.

3. Maintain training files for each CHA/P.

4. Manage daily activities and supervise Itinerant CHA/Ps and those sub regions temporarily without C/I coverage. Coordinate itinerant travel plans with support staff.

5. Provide medical evaluation of CHA/Ps through direct observation during village visits, review of patient encounters and medical traffic reporting.

6. Submit quarterly activity report to Director.

7. Assist with program quality improvement and procedure development.

8. Attend statewide CHAP meetings as assigned (i.e. Academic Review Committee).

9. Provide direct patient care at CAIHC.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:

1. Physician Assistant or Nationally certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

2. Two (2) years’ experience within Alaska Health Aide Program

3. Two (2) years clinical experience.

4. Eligible for Alaska PA-C License, possess national certification for Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

5. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirement and State of Alaska background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Understand scope of practice as a mid level practitioner and that of the Community Health Aide

2. Advanced knowledge of the CHA field.

3. Clinical teaching/mentoring experience preferred.

4. Competency with electronic media; including typing skills, software such as Microsoft office software & access.

5. Understanding of distance education delivery tools and electronic health records.

6. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills required to perform daily functions.

7. Background in rural health care and or emergency skills preferred.

Supervision:
This position supervises CHA.

Physical demands: Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds in support of equipment and supplies. Frequent travel to remote villages required. May be subject to harsh environmental conditions when traveling. Conditions include but are not limited to the following: travel by small, unpressurized aircraft, snowmobiles, boat, 4WD vehicles, lack of running water or waste facilities, poor heat, and extreme weather conditions. Position requires recurring bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching and stretching. Incumbent must be able to work accurately and efficiently in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.
