Job Summary



Job Summary: Job incumbent under the direction of licensed staff, provides ambulatory medical services and support to providers and CHA/P including but not limited to; health screening, procedures, CLIA waived lab QC, clinical management functions, and supply maintenance. MA’s will be assigned to support Clinical Instructors (CI) in the CHAP program which includes also supporting the CHA/Ps in the CI’s assigned village clinic.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under general supervision of the CHAP Coordinator Instructor job incumbent will:

1. Provide clinical management support (supply ordering, lab QC, temperature logs, etc.) to assigned village clinics, supporting those clinics remotely from Fairbanks.

2. Assist Coordinator Instructors with their assigned village patient panels. Work may include processing of Azara population health data and gap reports, coordination of telephone and video visits, initial patient interviews, and review and entry of patient vital signs.

3. Perform initial clinical interviews and processing of patients including a basic set of vital signs and description of the complaint/reason for the visit during village visits with CI. Project at least 1 week of village travel every 6-8 weeks.

4. Obtains appropriate information, specimens, lab results, x-ray results and health history from patients to prepare them for the clinical providers.

5. Assess patients for and identifies abnormal vital signs and patient conditions and immediately reports information to the appropriate clinician.

6. Prepare exam rooms/supplies and assist clinicians during patient visit.

7. Perform procedures as trained and within appropriate scope of practice (for example, tympanography, audiometry, spirometry, medication administration, perform EKG, vision screen, and dressing change, perform x-rays).

8. Stocks exam rooms, manage clinic supply inventory. Supports Village clinics with ensuring appropriate clinic supply inventory and questions from CHAP village clinics related to supplies.

9. Perform basic laboratory functions to include POC testing, specimen collection (phlebotomy, urine, sputum, etc.), specimen processing, handling/shipping, quality control, and resulting [in E.H.R.].

10. Provide and document patient education including rationale for medication administration, medication side effects, explanation of medications and procedures, prescription usage and directions, test results, disease prevention and education on lifestyle changes.

11. Set up referral appointments for patients and schedules follow up with provider or CHA/P as needed or requested.

12. Perform support duties on a daily basis as outlined in the appropriate checklist.

13. Track and log medications and vaccinations.

14. Perform instrument cleaning, packaging and sterilization.

15. Operate and maintain medical equipment in clinics during visits.

16. Prepares and assembles any equipment necessary to travel with on village clinic visits.

17. Integrate work with other staff to ensure timely and accurate patient flow.

18. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.

19. Comply with center’s policies and procedures.

20. Schedule may include after hours/weekend on-call.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

2. One year of clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. EMT, CNA experience may be considered.

3. Current BLS certification.

4. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirement and State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS).

5. Maintain strict confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Phlebotomy and injection skills.

2. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse primary health care team.

3. Proficient typing and personal computer skills.

4. Math, reading, writing and grammar skills to minimum of eighth grade level.

Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands: Must be able to lift, carry and handle equipment needed for medical procedures. Will spend most of time walking, sitting and standing to complete tasks.


Summation



Summation: Position requires the ability to adapt and communicate standards of medical care and the knowledge of disease and treatment to individual patient’s situations.
