Tamwood International Camps welcomes young learners ages 7–17 to develop their English skills in a fun, supportive, and immersive camp environment. Campers participate in a wide range of activities including sports, arts & crafts, adventure challenges, excursions, and talent shows, while building confidence, independence, curiosity, and lifelong friendships.

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Head Teachers who are passionate about youth education, instructional leadership, and academic administration.

Position Summary

The Head Teacher leads the academic operations at their assigned Tamwood summer camp location, ensuring exceptional teaching quality across both ESL classes and Academy programs. This role oversees curriculum delivery, classroom culture, teacher performance, student placement testing, class assignments, and daily academic logistics, while serving as the main academic point of contact for staff, students, group leaders, and partner teams.

Working closely with the Academic Manager, Camp Director, and Head Office, the Head Teacher ensures program consistency, student satisfaction, instructional quality, safety, and alignment with Tamwood academic standards. The role is both instructional and operational, combining leadership, coaching, problem‑solving and student support in a fast-paced camp environment.

  • Academic Leadership & Program Execution
  • Implement and oversee ESL curriculum and Academy program frameworks to maintain high teaching quality and program fidelity.
  • Conduct student placement testing and assign learners to appropriate ESL levels and Academy cohorts, balancing nationality mix, learning needs, and class size.
  • Ensure an English‑only environment across all academic spaces to support immersion and language acquisition.
  • Monitor lesson delivery, instructional strategies, student engagement, and alignment with learning outcomes across all academic programs.
  • Address classroom‑related student disciplinary issues in accordance with Tamwood policies.
  • Ensure classroom organization, safety, and resource optimization across ESL and Academy learning spaces.
  • Work with the Academic Manager to arrange emergency class coverages, including supply teaching ESL classes if needed.
  • Supervise and support both ESL Teachers and Academy Instructors, ensuring effective teaching practice across varied subjects.
  • Oversee lesson planning and curriculum adherence, encouraging hands-on, inquiry‑based instruction.
  • Create and maintain teacher schedules and classroom assignments; adjust as needed to balance classes and optimize learning.
  • Conduct formal and informal teacher observations, providing timely, constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Lead weekly academic staff meetings and provide daily briefings to ensure communication, clarity, and smooth operations.
  • Mentor new instructors in classroom management, youth engagement, and adherence to Tamwood teaching standards.
  • Oversee all academic logistics, including schedules, classroom readiness, and material distribution.
  • Manage graduation ceremonies, including certificate preparation, distributing teacher progress reports, and Academy showcase support (final project).
  • Maintain academic supplies, teaching materials, and equipment for all programs.
  • Submit weekly payroll reports, supply order requests, and academic updates to Head Office.
  • Collaborate with camp operations to ensure smooth student orientation, transitions to and from classes, and closing activities.
  • Complete end‑of‑season reports, inventories, and faculty evaluations.
  • Serve as primary academic liaison for the Camp Director, Camp Coordinator, and Group Leaders.
  • Communicate regularly with the Health Attendant regarding student wellness and academic concerns.
  • Attend weekly office hours and group leader meetings to review feedback and address student issues.
  • Represent the academic program during parent or agent tours, as needed.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and guest speakers supporting Academy programming (where applicable).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, TESOL, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of ESL or other teaching experience, preferably within camps, youth programs, or experiential-learning settings.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in an educational environment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to support teachers across multiple disciplines (ESL specialized Academies).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and comfort working in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with educational technology.
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and positivity with a strong youth‑focused approach.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal Head Teacher is an adaptable, caring leader who thrives in a high-energy, youth-centered environment. They confidently coach teachers, solve problems efficiently, maintain calm under pressure, and build a positive, supportive academic culture, assuring consistency, safety, and excellence in every aspect of the program.

Full-time position: 4-5 days per week (including some Saturdays), 30 hours.
