Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform peer mentoring to freshmen (or transfer) students. Meet individually with students weekly. Maintain current and confidential records and information. Develop and maintain professional relationships with UNIV instructors and University College staff. Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments. Meet regularly with TAMIU CAMP for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Current TAMIU student with 60 SCH or more at the time of appointment. Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates. Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students. Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP). Preferred Experience Migrant or seasonal farm worker background. Experience with student engagement activities Bilingual (English/Spanish) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Computer literate. Ability to: Communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Interact effectively and professionally with students and staff. Motivate students. Work effectively in teams. Speak in front of large groups. Maintain confidentiality. Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule. Promptly complete all required trainings. Submit time sheet biweekly. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Subject to funding and/or need. Pay of Rate: $9.00/hour for up to 19 hours weekly All positions are security-sensitive. To be eligible for Student Employment: Undergraduate Students · Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester of college-level courses or accepted remedial courses. · International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 2.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Graduate Students: · Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester. · International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation. Federal and State Work Study positions It may also be advantageous for you to apply for financial aid to assist you with meeting your educational goals. This may also include being eligible for the Federal Work Study and State Work Study programs.
