General Summary: Under the supervision of the Head of Resources & Metadata Management, the Collection Management Librarian oversees the ongoing organization, updating, and weeding of the library’s general collection. Assesses the physical strengths and weaknesses of the collection through multiple tools. Assists with leading the library’s Collection Development Committee. Oversee the library’s gift acquisitions, representing the library when interacting and communicating with donors. Assist in compiling collection content and expenditure analysis for surveys and reports. May supervise Unit staff in the absence of the Head of Resources & Metadata Management. The Cornette Library is committed to helping our future colleague develop these skills. Responsibilities: Collection Management: Oversee the ongoing organization, updating, and weeding of the general collection. Gains familiarity with the University’s curriculum and the Texas Panhandle area to make informed decisions regarding the collection. Assists with leading the library’s Collection Development Committee. Studies the university’s curriculum and assesses the library’s physical/electronic collections’ strengths and weaknesses by using data analysis, physical condition, surveys, and other tools and reports findings to the Collection Development Committee and/or liaison librarians. Under the supervision of the Head of Resources & Metadata Management, compiles collection content (and expenditure analysis) for surveys, accreditation reports, and annual library assessment reports. Evaluates inquiries about gift materials or donations for library collections. Explores new collection development tools to help streamline the collection review process. Under the supervision of the Head of Resources & Metadata Management, gathers and evaluates data from multiple sources, including usage data, collection and expenditure data, and other data as needed for both decision-making and reporting purposes. May develop and implement training programs related to collection management. Access Services: Shares timely information with the Head of Access Services regarding maintenance of Loan, Reference, and Youth Collections. May work hours at the library’s Access Services desk under the supervision of the Head of Access Services. Personnel Management: Along with the Library Associate I for Periodicals, Bindery, and ETD Management, manages the Resources & Metadata Management Unit in the absence of the Head of Resources & Metadata Management. Professional Development: Maintains currency with developments in library service and collection development and management. Commits to learning and self-improvement, adding value to Cornette Library and West Texas A&M University through attendance at Cornette Library’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) and through other professional avenues as memberships in professional organizations, conferences, webinars, podcasts, professional literature, presentations and/or publishing. Professional Service: Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments. Participates in maintenance of library collections in liaison area(s) through evaluation, weeding, and selection of resources in consultation with faculty and the library’s Collection Development Committee. Serves on Cornette Library committees. May also participate in university committees and/or regional, state, or national library or library-related professional committees. Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University, and job-specific online training courses. Necessary Qualifications: MLS, MSLS, MLIS from an ALA-accredited program. Two (2) years of experience in education, administration, or a related field. Knowledge of collection development principles. Familiarity with various operating systems and software. Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with campus community. Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others. Knowledge of academic library resources. Ability to move medium weight boxes, furniture, books, heavy book trucks or similar items. Ability to handle materials containing dust or microscopic mold spores. May require working evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a second discipline. Five (5) years of experience in a library setting. Collection assessment or collection development experience. Supervisory experience. Strong customer service skills Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic librarianship, scholarship, and/or technologies.
