Job TitleGA Teaching/ TOR & GAR: PsySped- Assistant Agency East Texas A&M University Department Psychology & Special Ed Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCommerce, Texas Job TypeGraduate Assistant Job Description HALF TIME GAR/ GATOR 10 HRS EACH- Weekly NOTE: This posting is for two different positions GA Research Support departmental research by assisting faculty with study design, data collection, and analysis; contributing to literature reviews and manuscript or grant preparation; maintaining compliance with ethical and institutional research standards; and, where applicable, mentoring undergraduate research assistants. GAT of Record GAToRs who are instructors of record have primary responsibility for teaching a course for credit or noncredit and/or for assigning final grades for the course. In order to qualify to be an instructor of record as a GAT, the graduate student must have earned a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the field in which she or he will be teaching. Although instructor of record, the GAToR must work under the direct supervision of a faculty member experienced in the teaching field, receive regular in-service training, and be regularly evaluated. Teaching assistants who are new Instructors of Record are required to successfully complete the A&M-Commerce Teaching Academy. · GAToR's who assist the instructor of record with a zero-credit lab associated with a classroom course must have completed twelve hours of graduate or upper-level undergraduate coursework directly related to the undergraduate course being taught. GATs assisting with a zero-credit lab must work under the direct supervision of the instructor of record, complete lab safety, supervision training, and be evaluated on a semester basis by faculty. The duties of a full-time GAT require a maximum of 20 hours of work per week or teach 6 hours of undergraduate courses for GATs listed as instructor of record. Minimum GA requirements are: · Full/Conditional Admission to Texas A&M University-Commerce master, specialist or doctoral program The Graduate Assistant – Teaching provides instructional support to faculty members by assisting with teaching-related responsibilities such as classroom preparation, grading, student support, and course development. This position is designed to help graduate students gain firsthand experience in academic instruction, which may include leading class sessions, proctoring exams, and assisting with instructional materials. Through this role, students will strengthen critical skills including public speaking, classroom management, academic communication, time management, and a deeper understanding of their academic discipline. This experience is ideal for students interested in future careers in education, training, or academic leadership. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Teach or assist in teaching undergraduate-level courses, discussion sections, or laboratory sections, as assigned Attend lectures given by the faculty member to stay informed of course content and expectations Lead classroom discussions, tutorials, or review sessions to reinforce course materials MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Must be an active graduate-level student at East Texas A&M University Knowledge / Skills: Must be punctual and possess strong computer skills. (Please include department-specific programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Ability to: Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Develop and update instructional materials such as syllabi, visual aids, supplementary notes, and course websites Prepare, proctor, and grade examinations, assignments, and papers in accordance with faculty guidelines Record and maintain accurate grade records and assist with grade-related documentation Return graded assignments and assessments to students according to established timelines Notify instructors of student concerns or errors in instructional content or assignments Order or obtain materials and supplies needed for instruction or lab activities Maintain scheduled office hours to meet with students for academic support and guidance Provide one-on-one or group academic assistance, as needed Copy and distribute classroom materials and handouts Perform other duties as assigned All positions are security-sensitive. Must be awarded federal or state work-study through Financial Aid May work up to 19 hours per week during the semester May work full-time during breaks and summer if returning in the fall Must not work during scheduled class times Positions are limited to the amount awarded and must follow program guidelines Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education. To qualify, students must: Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non-degree) Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support For additional assistance or questions regarding your job application, please email HR.StudentHiring@etamu.edu.
